Víctor Álamo De la Rosa

He was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1969, although he spent his childhood on the Canary Island of El Hierro. He has published ten novels, five poetry collections, two short story collections, and two books of articles and interviews.

His literary work, translated into several languages and has received numerous distinctions, such as the Mercedes Pinto Literature Prize (2004), the Alfonso García Ramos Literary Creation Prize (2007), the 2013 Benito Pérez Armas Novel Prize, the Isaac de Vega Short Story Prize, the Government of the Canary Islands' Agustín Espinosa Narrative Prize, and the Leoncio Rodríguez Journalism Prize. His work has been published in France, Portugal, Brazil, Croatia, Venezuela, and Germany, among other countries.

His novels include El humilladero (1994); El año de la seca (1997), with a prologue by José Saramago; Campiro (2001), a 2005 finalist for the Prix Femina for best foreign novel published in France; Terramores (2007); La cueva de los leprosos (2010); Isla nada (2013); Todas las personas que mueren de amor (winner of the 2013 Benito Pérez Armas Novel Prize); Omar el niño cangrejo (2017); El pacto de las viudas (2019); and La ternura del caníbal (2020). In 2020, he published the volume Da que pensar: textos y pretextos para una antología (1987–2020), a book compiling articles and essays written over more than thirty years and originally published across various newspapers and magazines—such as El País, National Geographic, and local press outlets, among others. His latest works are Trabajar en los vientos (1987–2021)—a collection of the writer's complete poetry compiled by Victoriano Santana Sanjurjo—and the short story collection Reparación del horizonte.
